Nokia 500 Review

There’s one more addition to Nokia’s lineup of smartphones. Running on Anna, Nokia 500 is first Symbian device with 1GHz processor. The latest entrant by Nokia looks stylish, feels great in hand, and comes with lot of features at a pocket friendly price.

Nokia has released the phone in shades of Blue, Red, Green, Pink, Black& White and every unit comes with 2 additional back covers. If you are a Nokia phone lover, this new entry is a delight for you. One thing I would like to emphasize about is the look and feel of the phone. Though, Nokia 500 is 14.1mm thick but it feels so sleek and light weighted in hand. Nokia has not compromised with the quality of plastic body and the phone is definitely sturdy.
Nokia 500 has 3.2 inch capacitive touchscreen with nHD display for an improved view. It has ambient light sensor that automatically adjusts the display brightness, proximity sensor for turning off the display automatically, and accelerometer sensor for portrait & landscape view.

Coming to connectivity options you get in Nokia 500. Well, it’s a 3G phone without secondary camera that means no video calling support. But, the device has quadband 2G and pentaband 3G support that will reduce the chances of call drop. Wi-Fi b/g, HSDPA 14.4 Mbps, HSUPA 5.76 Mbps are other advantages of the phone.

5MP camera is the new standard in the mid-range phone market and Nokia 500 is no exception. It lacks in flash but has additional camera features like Geotagging, white balance modes, image editor, and more.

Nokia 500 runs on Symbian Anna OS and has 1GHz processor, which makes it the first Anna device with such a powerful processor. Drawback is the 256MB RAM that slows down the processing speed of the phone. Internal memory of the phone is again low. 2GB built-in memory that is expandable up to 32GB. But, affordable pricing of the phone surely compensates for this.

It has Ovi Chat for instant messaging, push email, and mail for exchange support. You can play Flash videos as the phone comes loaded with Adobe Flash Play 4.0. Live TV is another catch of the phone but I am not sure how Indian consumers are going to be benefitted with this feature.

Nokia 500 has A-GPS support, comes with Ovi maps, Wi-Fi positioning to get location info in case there are no GPS signals, and of course digital compass for additional assistance. Then, you have Quickoffice app for creating and editing all documents, excel sheets, and presentations. Social networking is common in almost all the phones.

Nokia is making efforts to firmly place itself once again in market. If we take a closer look at Nokia 500, the device is worth buying. It has got stylish looks, big screen, better display, Symbian Anna OS, 1GHz processor, and a decent 5MP camera. When you are looking for a phone priced under Rs.10,000, Nokia 500 is an option worth considering.

Android Phones That Fit Into Your Budget

Android phones have become so popular in market that the open source platform “Android” is expected to capture around 50% of market share by 2012. By seeing the growth in numbers of Android lovers worldwide, cellphone manufacturers have shifted their focus from Proprietary OS to this open source platform.

Android is for everyone. Where cellphone companies are launching heavily priced Android devices like Galaxy S and HTC Desire HD in market, they are also targeting a segment of buyers who do not prefer spending much on their mobile phones.

This time we have covered some of the good but definitely not the most expensive Android phones in market. Ranging between Rs.5,000-11,000, check out what these phones got to offer:

Spice Mi-310

We can’t call it the cheapest Android phone, but it has every feature a phone owner wish to have in his device. The 3.1 inch capacitive touchscreen phone has resolution of 480x320 pixels. It runs on Android Froyo OS, which is not upgradable to Gingerbread. The phone has 3G and Wi-Fi b/g support, good enough to keep you connected.

Though, the camera is 2MP but image quality is fine. You can record videos and adjust brightness level of the phone. Moreover, it has night vision that enhances the quality of the image taken at night or under bad lighting conditions.

The phone has push email and support for Gmail. You can stay connected with friends with the Gtalk instant messenger and social networking apps supported by the phone. Other than this, it has A-GPS and Google Maps support.

Spice Mi-310 is available for Rs.6,900 on Saholic

Samsung Galaxy Fit S5670

A stylish and slim phone from Samsung, Galaxy Fit is popular in market because of its build quality, impressive UI and of course of its Android Froyo OS. The phone has 3.1 inch capacitive touchscreen and support for 16M colors. The phone has 3G support with download speed of 7.2Mbps and Wi-Fi b/g/n connectivity.

Wow…the camera is 5 megapixels but flash is missing. Still the phone is packed with features like 3x digital zoom, autofocus, white balance modes, and ISO settings. You can not only record but also watch YouTube videos as the phone supports streaming.

And there’s lot more – Galaxy Fit has 600MHz processor, supports multitasking, A-GPS, eCompass, QuickOffice document editor/viewer, push email, Gtalk, Facebook, and everything else you desire a smartphone to come with.

Samsung has priced the phone intelligently. It is available for Rs.10,500 on saholic.com

HTC Wildfire A3333

The Android Éclair phone with Sense UI, HTC Wildfire is a hit in market because of its stylish look and the so-reasonable price tag. The Froyo upgrade for device was released long ago by HTC. Wildfire has 3.2 inch capacitive touchscreen with Gorilla Glass display for scratch & damage resistance. The smartphone comes packed with accelerometer, gravity, ambient light, and proximity sensors.

The phone supports wide range of audio and video formats. Further, it has Shazam application that will help you in recognizing and buying music. Where 3G will increase the browsing speed, Wi-Fi will save a lot of your bucks.

Click amazing pictures with the 5MP camera and LED flash. Since it supports 3G and has 528MHz processor, watching videos on YouTube will not invite too much of buffering & will be smooth. The phone has Adobe Flash Player support too.

What’s Else is Inside the Device?

The phone comes with security features such as Remote Wipe that allows you to remotely lock the phone by sending a text command, in case your device gets stolen.

Other than providing A-GPS and eCompass support, HTC has added Footprints and My Tracks features in the phone.

If you are one of those who can’t live without checking & adding FB updates, you will fall in love with the HTC Wildfire. It has some native apps of HTC including Friendstream, HTC Peep, and What the Doodle (a social multiplayer drawing game).

You get all this and more at a price of Rs.9999, which is not-at-all a bad deal. The phone is available for the same price on saholic.com

The two leading names in mobile industry, Google & Motorola have finally launched Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Droid RAZR in the market. Both the handsets have been in news for quite a long time for the features they will be loaded with. Finally, there is an end to all the rumors and pre-announcements in market. The next big question that rises is “which one of the two recent releases would you like to own?”

Not much news has been leaked out, but the most necessary one is here. Let’s take a look at the distinguishing features between both next-generation mobile phones.

Galaxy Nexus comes with the all-new and much talked about Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS but Motorola decided not to take any chance by sticking to Android Gingerbread. Both devices have same processor & RAM, which means you will not find major speed difference. Yes, the resolution and screen of Samsung Galaxy Nexus is higher & larger than RAZR. Again, Droid RAZR stands-out when it comes to camera with its 8MP resolutions (Galaxy Nexus has 5MP camera).

And how can we not talk about the thickness of Motorola Droid RAZR. It is the slimmest phone in the market with just 7.1mm thickness and the device also weighs 127g (Galaxy Nexus is 135g).

Why Shop Online?

The online shopping trend is about to explode. With so many retailers and even big brands following the same trend, we can say that eCommerce is going to be the next boom in the industry. However, online shopping is still in an evolving stage in India. I am amazed to see how dramatically the number of online shoppers is increasing in the country. It was estimated that air and rail tickets of whopping INR 30 crore are sold online everyday.

Online shopping is hassle free and yes, we all are slowly adopting this trend. What are those “good things” about online shopping, which make it so addictive? Let’s talk about them:

You Get More Options

Just Google about a particular product you want to purchase and thousands of results will be displayed on the screen within a few seconds. Suppose you want to buy a leather jacket, you can go through each web page, see the collection, and decide if you want to go ahead with the payment procedure. And the best part is you don’t have to think that saying no is going to annoy the salesman. Take your time and choose wisely.

The Convenience Factor

There’s no doubt that online purchase is far more convenient than visiting the physical store. You don’t have to get dressed-up or take the vehicle out, just because you want to check out a product at a store that you are not even sure of buying. It saves your time and fuel as well. Moreover, you can shop whenever you want to because online shopping follows the strict 24x7 criteria.

Better Deals

It is true that increasing online shopping trend means decrease in product prices. Every website is keeping a watch on what its competitors are selling. And if you don’t believe me, eCommerce sites even loose customers for a mere difference of Rs.10. You get all the freedom to surf as many sites you want, check out their deals, and buy product from the one you think is reliable & is offering a better price.

Second Hand Product Purchase

So you are looking for some antiques, there’s no place better than an eCommerce sites. There are lot of people selling their old/used things for peanuts, check out the price and grab them.

Things You Should Take Care of

Online shopping is convenient, money saving, and you will enjoy the experience for sure. But, you have to be careful when it comes to choosing your online seller. Lot of sellers are using eCommerce platform just for the sake of earning market presence and they seriously do not have the sense of business.

What you can do is search for the feedback about an ecom site before making a purchase. There will be consumer complaints as well as appreciation about such sites, which will help you in filtering out the most reliable of all the available options.

Delivery & customer service support is another key thing to be taken care of. Fine, you are getting a product for Rs.200 lesser than what other site is offering, but it’s of no use if the product is delivered after 15-20 days or nobody in customer care is attending your query.

Don’t Get Tempt with Those Heavy Discount Offers on Cellphones

Yes, you will come across many discount offers on cellphones, laptops, and other gadgets. Hold on. There are chances that the website is selling grey market products. The prices will be absurdly less but these products do not carry manufacturer warranty. In case your newly bought phone faces software or other functional issues, the authorized service center will not repair it under warranty period. You will be left with two options – either take the product to the seller (which is difficult) or pay for the repair (more hassle free option for you). There are websites like www.saholic.com wherein, you will get good deals on products along with manufacturer warranty. And in case, there’s any problem with the product, these guys will collect it from your doorstep & sort the things out for you.

Become a smart shopper. Don’t just get carried away with the BIG money saver deal you have seen on the Internet. Do some research, understand market trends, make a list of some of your favorite websites, and go on an online shopping spree.

Difference Between iPhone 4 & iPhone 4S

Talks about the launch of Apple iPhone 5 were in the air for the last 6 months or so, but Apple gave tech lovers a shock by introducing the iPhone 4S. Not many people know that iPhone 4S shares specs similar to what could have been in the rumored iPhone 5.

Targeted as “the next generation iPhone”, iPhone 4S is not bigger or sleeker than iPhone 4 (dimensions are same) but the device weighs 140grams (iPhone 4 weighs 137grams). But, what is under the hood is definitely astounding.

So, what makes iPhone 4S better than iPhone 4?

The iPhone 4S has dual core Apple A5 processor, which makes the phone twice as fast as iPhone 4.
The new intelligent antenna system will not only improve the call quality, but also increase the connection speed.

How can we miss out on the all-new and much talked-about iOS5 and Siri. Using both, you can make your device perform multiple tasks just by speaking. You can ask questions like “Which day is Christmas falling this year?” or “The weather in Delhi” and Siri will get back with an answer within a few seconds. Your phone will obey your commands such as making a voice call, writing text messages, or even creating reminders.

The iPhone 4S comes with 8MP camera while the earlier version iPhone 4 has 5MP camera, which means you will now be able to click better pictures. Plus, there’s one dedicated camera button in the phone.

Just like BlackBerry Messenger, Apple has introduced iMessage. It will enable iPhone users to chat with each other using Wi-Fi or 3G. This is definitely going to save at least a few bucks for you.

You will now get better email, messages, and social networking notifications with the intuitive & powerful feature of iOS5. Similar to Android phones, all new notifications will open in one tray in your iPhone 4S.

Apple has integrated Twitter in iPhone 4S and we are hoping Facebook to be next in-line.

Apple has finally made iPhone 4S a PC-free device. Like Android phones, you will no longer have to connect the device to PC or Mac for software updates as these can be received on the phone wirelessly.

Around 200 new features have been announced in iOS5, but Apple isn’t talking much about them:
  • LED flash for email alerts, which BlackBerry phones come with.
  • iCloud, which is a free service and allows you to share 5GB data between iOS devices.
  • New Safari browser that will allow you to save web pages for offline reading.
  • Improved text formatting – Now compose mails with text in bold, italics etc.
  • Email can be flagged.
